Learning Areas

The nursery is a spacious purpose-built setting with three age-related rooms. The main building contains two rooms: Forest room and Woodland room with an additional upstairs teaching room. All rooms are light and airy, with differentiated furniture and equipment suitable for each age group.

There is a separate room for our youngest children (Orchard room) which has its own access, car parking and facilities. The orchard room is separated from the main building by the nursery garden. We have recently built a new hall, which is opposite the orchard room and all children can use the hall for soft play, group activities, dance, language sessions and visits. This has proved to provide a wonderful additional space for the children to use.

Orchard Room
The orchard room provides a rich, stimulating and peaceful atmosphere that is filled with soft play, colourful displays, toys, mobiles, sensory equipment and a sleeping room.

Little ones will learn to crawl, walk, play, start to communicate and begin developing large and small motor skills during their time in the orchard room. It is place where there are lots of cuddles and giggles and where children feel very secure. Exciting imaginative activities that will stimulate your child’s imagination take place all helping to develop communication skills and physical development as they gradually learn to explore the world around them. The orchard room also benefits from having air conditioning, which provides a calm and comfortable environment on warm days.

Forest Room
At this stage children will start to refine their large and small motor skills and their emotional and social skills will develop with the formation of friendships. They will use meaningful language to communicate and their concentration, curiosity of the world and independence will grow.

The forest room allows children to experience free play, group stories, singing sessions, sand and water play. Building, puzzles, role play and messy play are just a few of the activities your child will enjoy.

Woodland Room
The woodland room provides the perfect setting to help children develop. The room is divided up into particular areas of learning depending on the topic. For example, areas include a book corner, laptop table, maths, mark making, art and craft area, topic displays, café and small world play. All of these areas help each child to develop physically, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

A wide range of planned activities are offered to challenge, stimulate and excite children, encouraging them to want to learn and discover more about the world. They flourish and become more confident and independent learners every day. There will be an emphasis on learning to love books, listening to stories, reading, recognising and writing letters, counting, number recognition and practical maths skills.

In the woodland room children will be encouraged to look after their belongings, put on their own coats, tidy up for themselves, listen quietly at certain times and learn how to be resilient and resourceful in their learning.

The Snug
The snug is a special, warm and cosy upstairs classroom used by all the children. It is for small groups where focused learning can take place. It has a soft carpet and cushions with sensory resources that the children love.

The Hall
Our Hall provides a stimulating environment where soft play, dance classes, indoor sports and active learning can take place. The hall also benefits from having air conditioning, which provides a calm and comfortable environment.

Woodlands
We have our very own Woodlands on site. It is a fantastic area that children love. The woodlands area contains log rings, mud kitchens, stepping stones, wooden dens, musical instruments, sitting logs, a small world play area and a storytelling ring.

Our weekly forest school sessions take place in the woodlands and provide the children with a vast range of physical activities, including den building, walking along stepping stones, making mud pies, building animal homes and walking and climbing over logs.
